Play golf for a great cause! The SUNY Orange Foundation Golf Outing is an opportunity to play golf, have fun, AND raise money for scholarships for deserving SUNY Orange students. Thank you to all of our golfers! We are sold out! But you can still join us for dinner and drinks before golf or purchase a tee-sign in support of SUNY Orange Athletic Scholarships! We will have a Golf Cart Decorating Contest! Bring your own decorations and have some fun! Prizes for the best decorations! Everyone is welcome! This event raises money for SUNY Orange Athletic Scholarships. This year, the SUNY Orange Men's Basketball team played in the National Junior College Athletic Association Division II basketball tournament - only the second time in the history of the College that this has happened. The SUNY Orange Colts took fourth place in the championship and the program's 31 wins (against 3 losses) ranked them second in the nation and established a school record. Several of these players are scholarship recipients and your generous support of this event helped to give them this incredible experience. Preserve the past. Inspire the future. Who is Sugar? Meet Sugar, SUNY Orange’s very own mastodon. A 20-foot-long, 9-foot-tall ancient giant who has greeted students at the Middletown campus since the 1980s. Discovered in 1972 near the Warwick-Chester border and radiocarbon dated to around 7910 B.C., Sugar is more than just bones, he’s a bridge to the past and an inspiration for the future. Sugar, officially known as a Mastodon Americanus, even features a rare lower jaw tusk, making him a particularly unique member of his ancient species. Why Your Support Matters After decades of being proudly displayed in the Bio-Tech building, Sugar needs some TLC. Time has taken a toll, and now we need your support to help take care of him. You are helping to make dreams come true for many of our students. This is the most flexible gift you can give because it will be used wherever it is most needed. This money supports programs such as the Summer Educational Opportunity Program which helps promising students overcome financial and academic barriers to attend SUNY Orange, earn a degree, and achieve their life goals; the Peer Advisor program which pays students to help other students with questions about classes or financial aid; the Student Ambassador program which pays students to help with Admissions events and partner with new students as they acclimate to college; or the High School Visitation program which brings interested high school students to SUNY Orange to show them the campus and share with them all that SUNY Orange has to offer.

Grant-in-Aid Financial Assistance is offered to students who need help with tuition, books or child care costs, are ineligible for Federal or State Aid and have demonstrated financial need. Grant-in-Aid Application Financial Aid Department Scholarships The SUNY Orange Foundation offers Grant-in-Aid Financial Assistance to students who need help with tuition, books or child care costs, are ineligible for Federal or State Aid and have demonstrated financial need. The awarded amount is based on individual circumstances, but cannot exceed $1,000 in any academic year. Who can apply: Continuing full-time or part-time students who have applied for Federal and/or State Financial Aid and have been determined ineligible based upon Federal and/or State criteria, but who have demonstrated financial need, are welcome to apply. Currently enrolled students must have a minimum cumulative grade point average of 2.0. All applicants will be notified via email of any decisions that are made. If awarded, student will receive an email from the SUNY Orange Foundation with additional information. Alumni Spotlights - Class of 1952 - 1959 Submit YOUR Alumni Story Here John J. “Jack” McMahon ’53 "We were lucky to be part of an educational experiment that offered us both a college degree and a host of new friends for life. It'll always be O-C-C-C to us." Few names are more synonymous with SUNY Orange than that of John J. “Jack” McMahon. Over the span of more than seven decades, McMahon has been a devoted student, dedicated staff member, loyal alumnus, and passionate supporter of the College, embodying the very spirit and legacy Orange County Community College (SUNY Orange). A proud member of the Class of 1953, one of the College’s first graduating classes, McMahon went on to earn his bachelor’s degree from Hamilton College in 1955. His journey came full circle when he returned to SUNY Orange in 1965 as its first public information officer. By 1970, he had added the role of assistant to the president to his résumé and also taught English in the College’s continuing education division. After leaving in 1983 to join Ottaway Newspapers, Inc. as assistant to the president, McMahon remained closely connected to the College. He was appointed to the SUNY Orange Board of Trustees in 1984, where he made history as the first alumnus elected to chair the Board. He served an impressive five terms as chairman before retiring in 2005. Throughout the years, McMahon’s leadership extended well beyond governance. He co-chaired the successful Cornerstone capital campaign (1992–94), led the College’s 50th Anniversary celebration (2000–01), and served as a charter member and president of the Alumni Association. His contributions have been recognized with numerous honors, including the SUNY Orange Distinguished Alumni Award in 1992 and the Leadership in Community Award in 2006. McMahon is especially proud that his late wife, Virginia ’60, and the couple’s two children, John ’84 and Judith ’86, also graduated from SUNY Orange, making their family’s connection to the College truly multigenerational. In 2016, McMahon was inducted into the SUNY Orange Colt Athletic Hall of Fame in recognition of his enduring support of the College’s athletic programs. To this day, Jack McMahon continues to attend campus events, share his vivid memories, and inspire new generations with stories of the College’s early days. His unwavering commitment and deep affection for SUNY Orange have left an indelible mark on the institution’s history, and its heart.

Beverly Poyerd Beverly Poyerd is a classically trained pianist and educator with over 20 years of experience in classical, jazz, and sacred music. A graduate of SUNY New Paltz with a Bachelor of Science in Music Therapy and Piano Performance, Beverly has studied under notable instructors like Chris Parker and Ruthanne Schempf. She teaches piano at SUNY Dutchess and runs her own private teaching studio. Beverly has performed with various ensembles, including the SUNY Orange Jazz Ensemble and Beacon Jazz Lab. Her role as a Musical Director and involvement with Hudson-Valley Jazzwomen reflect her passion for both performing and educating. Alfonso (Ray) Ramos Alfonso “Ray” Ramos is a classically trained bassist with over 20 years of experience, excelling in Classical, Jazz, and World music styles. He has studied under renowned musicians such as Victor Venegas and has served as the Principal Bass for the SUNY Orange Community Orchestra, Dutchess County Community Orchestra, and Northern Westchester Symphony. In addition to performing with various Jazz and Latin music groups, Ray leads his own Latin Jazz ensemble and has played at prestigious events like the Newburgh Jazz Festival and Hudson Valley Fiesta Latina.
